He appears to have been buried in the a same bog as George Motley. The Irish government files appear to suggest they were buried together
1921 Apr 10. Motley and Stay, went missing. His body was found at Anablaha Bog, Co Kerry and finally buried in 1927 in England
From English births there are only two possible John Stay, but there are deaths that match each!

1911 census with No 69 Company, RGA at Colaba, Bombay. Born Camberwell, Surrey 1889
A possible MIC for Stay. His medal entitlement has been deleted, which could be if he had been thought a deserter.

1921 Apr 10. Went missing. The local Guarda Report by Sgt James Crehan who found the bodies in 1926, says that the information given to him indicated that the 2 men " either deserted or wandered away from their post in Killarney and came on to Barraduff where they were taken prisoner by a party of the Irish Forces. They were kept prisoner in several farmhouses around the townlands of Anablaha, Raheen, Maughantoorig, Gneeveguilla for a period of about 6 months and they were eventually shot and buried in Anablaha Bog.
1926 Jan 15. His body, together with Motley, was found at Anablaha Bog, Headford, Co Kerry and finally buried in Jan 1927 somewhere in England. I have not been able to get the details of Stay's reburial.
