1920 Jun 28. This soldier was part of a military patrol on guard duty on Rathealey Road near Fermoy. His comrade Driver F.W.Geldart asked him for the time. L/Sgt Harris in the process of getting his watch out from his pocket accidentally set off a Verey pistol that was on his belt. He was severely burned especially on the thigh. He would later succumb to his wounds as septicaemia set in and died on 3|7|1920 at Fermoy Military Hospital..
